Keyamo Dismisses Viral Video of Tinubu Poster Destruction as Staged Propaganda

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has reacted to a viral video showing a man using a machete to destroy campaign posters of President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima.

The video, which carried the inscription “Tinubu Must Go”, was widely circulated online, sparking debate about public sentiment ahead of the 2027 elections.

Keyamo, in a statement posted on X Friday, described the incident as a deliberate propaganda stunt orchestrated by opposition elements to create the impression that the President had lost popular support.

“Here is a sponsored thug of the opposition brandishing a weapon, destroying the posters of the ruling party somewhere in the country. It is planned as a propaganda stunt because someone deliberately set a camera to record and circulate it,” Keyamo said.

Opposition TacticsThe minister alleged that similar incidents had been staged in other parts of the country, with opposition groups spinning them as evidence of Tinubu’s rejection by Nigerians.

He argued that the recording and circulation of the video were designed to push a political narrative ahead of the polls.

Keyamo also pointed to a recent incident in Lagos where Tinubu’s posters were used to cover those of an opposition party.

While condemning such actions, he criticised what he described as biased reactions from media outlets, which labelled those involved as “ruling party thugs.”

Keyamo stressed that his remarks should not be interpreted as a call for retaliation by supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“This is not a call on the teeming APC supporters to retaliate in any form, but this should prick the conscience of all men of goodwill,” he said.

The minister accused the opposition of attempting to portray the APC as unelectable, claiming that recent bye-elections had shown their weakness across five regions.

He expressed confidence that the ruling party would prevail in the 2027 presidential election, scheduled by INEC for January 16, 2027.
