The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has ridiculed opposition figures over allegations that President Bola Tinubu’s speech at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council was pre-recorded.
In a post on X on Thursday, Keyamo argued that the event was covered live by both local and international media, questioning the credibility of the claim.
He likened the allegation to the conspiracy theory during Muhammadu Buhari’s presidency that suggested the former leader had died in London and was replaced by a body double known as “Jubril from Sudan.”
“Now, some educated fellow comes up with an outrageous claim that the President’s appearance and speech yesterday at the launch of the APC Campaign Council was pre-recorded. Meanwhile, both the local and international press physically covered the event LIVE,” Keyamo wrote.
He added that he did not know whether to laugh or cry at the allegation, suggesting that some opposition figures were showing signs of “mental distress.”
President Tinubu inaugurated the APC Presidential Campaign Council on Wednesday at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda serving as vice-chairmen.
Former Zamfara Governor Abdulaziz Yari was named Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was appointed secretary.
The council is tasked with coordinating Tinubu’s re-election campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tinubu urged members to mobilise voters at the grassroots, stressing that their efforts would only matter if they translated into votes.
The controversy was sparked by activist Chidi Odinkalu, who alleged that Tinubu’s address showed signs of pre-recording. Odinkalu claimed the video transitions and camera work suggested orchestration.
Responding, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga accused Odinkalu of allowing partisanship to cloud his judgment, calling his post “false narratives online.”
Despite the uproar, the inauguration marked a major step in APC’s preparations for the 2027 polls, with the campaign flag-off rally scheduled for October 24 in Kaduna State.
