Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and his nephew, music star David Adeleke (Davido), are under heavy criticism on social media following their perceived alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
The backlash erupted after Governor Adeleke pledged to deliver Osun State for Tinubu and was named coordinator of the APC’s City Boy Movement in the state.
This move has sparked outrage among Nigerians who recall his earlier vow during the Osun governorship race to resist APC dominance in the state.
Davido has also been dragged into the controversy, with old tweets resurfacing where he once declared: “Anybody supporting APC in Osun is an enemy of progress.”
Critics now accuse him of double standards for staying silent while his uncle openly campaigns for APC.On X (formerly Twitter), users expressed anger, accusing the Adeleke family of betraying Osun people’s sacrifices.
Many recalled the struggles and losses endured during Adeleke’s gubernatorial bid, arguing that his new stance “spat on their sacrifice.”
One user wrote: “Many women became widows, many children were left fatherless, and many elderly parents buried their children for his sake. Yet barely two months later, Adeleke supports APC. This is a shame.”
Others accused Davido of lacking credibility, suggesting his silence proves politics and money drive his family’s decisions. Some described the Adeleke family’s position as “political double standards,” questioning why they oppose APC in Osun but support the party nationally.
Despite the uproar, supporters argue that forging alliances, even with former rivals can be a strategic political move.
Still, the backlash shows deep resentment among Osun voters who feel betrayed by Adeleke’s shift.
