Imo Police Rescue 10 Travellers, Recover Buses After Gunmen Attack


The Imo State Police Command has rescued 10 passengers and recovered two commercial buses following an attack by gunmen in Mbaitoli Local Government Area.


The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday at Umunoha, an area known as “No Man’s Land.” 


The buses were travelling from Ibadan in Oyo State, one bound for Uyo in Akwa Ibom State and the other for Bende in Abia State. 


Among those abducted were National Youth Service Corps members.Police Public Relations Officer DSP Henry Okoye confirmed that officers and other security agencies responded swiftly, recovering both vehicles and rescuing 10 victims at the scene. 


The exact number of people still in captivity is being verified.The rescued passengers are safe and receiving medical attention. Coordinated search-and-rescue operations, supported by intelligence-led tracking, are ongoing to free the remaining victims and arrest the suspects.


Commissioner of Police Audu Garba Bosso and other security commanders visited the site to assess the situation and direct the operation. 


He assured the public that efforts would continue until all victims are recovered and the perpetrators brought to justice.


The command is working with the NYSC Directorate to contact the families of affected corps members. 


The affected stretch of the expressway has been reopened, with security personnel deployed to protect travellers.


Police appealed for calm and urged members of the public to report any useful information to the nearest station or the command’s emergency lines.
