FRSC Bans Political Escorts Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has prohibited its officers from escorting politicians during campaign activities for the 2027 general elections.

Zonal Commanding Officer, RS6, ACM Abimbola Owolabi, issued the directive during her maiden visit to the Cross River Command in Calabar.

She emphasized that patrol vehicles and sirens must not be used for political purposes or private events such as weddings and funerals.

Owolabi instructed officers deployed to campaign venues to focus strictly on traffic management to ease congestion and prevent road crashes.

She warned personnel against leading political convoys or providing unauthorized escorts, stressing that misuse of official vehicles would not be tolerated.

The commander urged officers to intensify public education on road safety, noting that awareness campaigns are vital to reducing accidents and achieving zero fatalities.

She also cautioned against extortion, corruption, and misconduct, reminding personnel that accountability is key to maintaining public trust in the corps.

Highlighting officer welfare, Owolabi encouraged personnel to prioritize their health by utilizing the National Health Insurance Scheme.

She also appealed to members of the Road Safety Officers’ Wives Association (ROSOWA) to support their spouses in carrying out their duties effectively.

She concluded by calling for stronger collaboration with private operators to ensure broken-down vehicles are promptly removed from highways, while stressing the importance of emergency response and professional conduct during enforcement operations.
