The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (APC PCC) has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of orchestrating a plan to discredit the party’s presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna.
APC PCC spokesperson and Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, alleged in a statement on Saturday that the opposition was deploying propaganda tools, including deepfake videos, counterfeit documents, and misinformation, to mislead the public and manipulate opinion ahead of the rally.
According to Alake, a fake letter purportedly signed by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani claimed the state released ₦2.3 trillion to host the rally.
He dismissed the claim as “senseless and baseless,” noting that the figure exceeded Kaduna’s combined budgets for three years.
The council also accused Atiku’s camp of circulating misleading images and videos, including a photograph of a routine security patrol near an APC billboard, which was falsely presented as evidence of special protection for campaign materials.
“We have uncovered a well-orchestrated, devious plan… to misinform and disinform the public, manipulate opinion through fake news operations, deepfake videos, and counterfeit documents, all in a bid to discredit the APC rally in Kaduna,” the statement read.
The APC PCC urged Nigerians to disregard the alleged propaganda and remain focused on the campaign’s message, warning that doctored content would continue to surface as the rally progressed.
