The Accord Party in Gombe State has indicated its willingness to form alliances with other political parties, including the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to improve its chances in the 2027 general elections.
The party’s state coordinator, Samuel Chuwang, said such collaborations would become necessary, particularly in areas where Accord does not field candidates. He noted that the party would support political platforms with stronger electoral prospects while continuing to back its own candidates contesting National Assembly and State House of Assembly seats.
Speaking in a telephone interview, Chuwang reacted to questions about possible political alignments involving Accord’s national leadership and President Bola Tinubu.
According to him, the absence of an Accord governorship candidate in Gombe State makes strategic partnerships essential for the party to remain relevant and competitive during the elections.
“Since we don’t have a gubernatorial candidate, we will definitely look for the party that is more attractive and support it so that we can work in alliance with them,” he said.
Chuwang dismissed concerns that any alliance or merger could negatively affect Accord’s legislative candidates.
He argued that such arrangements would instead enhance the party’s visibility and political reach.
“It will not affect them negatively because it’s a merger. It will also give us a chance to gain wider recognition,” he stated.
The Accord Party's position comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, as parties explore strategic partnerships to strengthen their electoral fortunes across the country.
