Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele have hailed the composition of President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, describing it as a landmark coalition that reflects inclusivity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during plenary, Bamidele noted that the council’s structure, bringing together leaders from different political parties signals a “rainbow coalition” that could foster unity and strengthen democratic values.
“In the best interests of the Nigerian people, a rainbow coalition indeed is on the move and very much on course,” Bamidele said.
He highlighted the inclusion of figures such as Governor Chukwuma Soludo (APGA), Governor Ademola Adeleke (Accord Party), and Minister Nyesom Wike (PDP), who have been assigned key roles as state and regional coordinators.
Akpabio echoed the sentiment, calling the arrangement “an uncommon development” in Nigeria’s democratic journey since 1999.
He said the council’s composition demonstrates Tinubu’s intent to pursue a second term with an emphasis on national unity.
“This is not just inclusive government in terms of infrastructure and reforms. It is also inclusive in terms of unity of purpose in democracy,” Akpabio stated.
The Senate President added that contributions to governance should transcend party lines, noting that Soludo’s expertise as a professor and former Central Bank governor could enrich policy discussions.
The Senate adjourned proceedings ahead of the campaign council’s inauguration, with Minority Leader Abba Moro seconding the motion.
