Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has criticized Vice President Kashim Shettima, arguing that his performance in public office does not justify a second term.
In a post on his verified X handle titled “A Record That Cannot Carry A Second Term”, Melaye questioned Shettima’s impact as Governor of Borno State between 2011 and 2019, a period marked by the Boko Haram insurgency.
He recalled that the abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls in 2014 occurred under Shettima’s watch, describing it as the most enduring symbol of the crisis.
Melaye, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), lamented that the North-East continues to suffer attacks on military bases, abductions, and displacement of communities despite Shettima’s years in leadership as governor, senator, and now vice president.
“The recent reports of an attack on a military base in Marte where soldiers were killed and gun trucks seized, an assault on Chibok, and abduction of girls in Askira/Uba… These cannot justify a second term for Shettima,” he wrote.
He stressed that leaders should be judged not by promises or announced efforts but by tangible results delivered.
