A former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Dr. Oluwole Oluyede, has urged Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to highlight his accomplishments and leadership record rather than focus on youthful energy in his presidential campaign.
Oluyede, founder of the Oluyede Progressive Alliance for Renewed Hope Agenda, criticised Makinde’s emphasis on stamina and physical fitness, insisting that Nigerians need proven leadership, political experience, and measurable achievements.
“Youthfulness without results is not leadership. Being young is not, in itself, proof of leadership capacity,” he said in a statement issued Friday in Ado Ekiti.
Makinde, the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, had told supporters at a South-West town hall meeting in Akure that his campaign would prioritise energy and resilience over age.
But Oluyede countered that leadership should be judged by performance, citing President Bola Tinubu’s record of building political structures and navigating challenges as governor of Lagos at a younger age.
He challenged Makinde to present his achievements in governance, his stewardship of the PDP in the South-West, and his plans for Nigeria.
“The presidency demands more than physical stamina; it requires the capacity to manage a complex economy, address security challenges, strengthen institutions, and provide clear direction for national development,” Oluyede said.
The PDP chieftain added that the 2027 presidential debate should focus on achievements, ideas, accountability, and sustainable development, not personal comparisons of age or fitness.
