The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council has conferred the traditional political title of Kaigama (Field Marshal) on Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris in recognition of his party loyalty, governance record and mobilisation efforts.
Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, a member of the council, announced the honour during a consultative visit to the state led by the council’s Director-General, Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar.
The visit forms part of nationwide engagements with traditional rulers ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to a statement by the governor’s Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Zuru, the title acknowledges Idris’s commitment to the APC, resilience in office and political organising.
Yari’s team paid homage to the Emir of Gwandu and Chairman of the State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Muhammadu Bashar, seeking prayers before formal campaign activities begin.
The delegation received a warm welcome at Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Birnin Kebbi, led by Governor Idris, and later at the emir’s palace.
Emirs of Argungu, Yauri and Zuru also attended, alongside traders, farmers, traditional dancers and praise singers.Yari described the reception as the strongest the council had received so far on its tour.
He credited Idris’s leadership for the APC’s strong position in Kebbi and praised President Bola Tinubu’s performance over the past three years as justification for a second term.
Governor Idris, in response, pointed to the roles of key party figures including former Governor and Senator Adamu Aliero, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Atiku Bagudu, former Governor Sa’idu Nasamu Dakingari and Senator Yahaya Abdullahi.
He said development projects under his administration had further strengthened the party’s standing and expressed confidence that any future campaign visit would be largely ceremonial, with residents already focused on the 2027 elections.
The Kaigama title was conferred with the approval of the campaign council’s chairman and was presented as recognition of Idris’s contributions to consolidating the APC in Kebbi.
