The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has formally distanced itself from lawyer Ifeanyi Ejiofor, insisting he no longer represents the group or its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
In a statement issued by IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the group emphasized that Ejiofor was dismissed by Kanu himself through a letter from Sokoto Prison.
IPOB accused Ejiofor of failing to provide effective legal representation during Kanu’s terrorism trial and of engaging in professional misconduct.
The statement read in part:“Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu debriefed and sacked Mr. Ejiofor for gross incompetence and professional misconduct. Since his dismissal, Mr. Ejiofor has aligned with groups working against the release of our leader. He does not speak for us. He is an impostor.”
IPOB warned media organizations against referring to Ejiofor as its counsel, threatening legal action against any outlet that does so.
The group stressed that only lawyers directly appointed by Kanu are recognized as part of its legal team.
The pro-Biafra movement urged its supporters to remain vigilant and reject any attempts to misrepresent IPOB or undermine Kanu’s authority.
