Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has restated his commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, stressing that the Rainbow Coalition is not an alternative political structure to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking after inspecting key road projects in Abuja on Monday, Wike said his priority was ensuring Tinubu’s second-term victory. “My concern is that the President will be re-elected for the second term.
That is my concern. And I made that known from the onset that I was going to support Mr President with all my might and strength,” he declared.
His remarks come amid tension between APC governors and Rainbow Coalition supporters, with critics suggesting the coalition could weaken the ruling party.
Wike dismissed such claims, insisting the platform is designed to unite APC members and allies from other parties behind Tinubu’s candidacy.
He also rejected speculation that he was positioning himself for the 2031 presidential race, saying future political decisions depend on circumstances beyond his control.
“You know, people take the position of God. First of all, you have to pray that you are alive… When God keeps you alive, then you now know what to do,” he said.
Wike promised to reveal what he described as the “undertones” behind opposition to the coalition during a forthcoming television appearance.
Meanwhile, the minister expressed satisfaction with progress on major infrastructure projects in the FCT, including the Southern Parkway, Nile University–Ring Road 3 link, and the Gaduwa bridge.
Contractors, he noted, have renewed commitments to complete and hand over the projects before the 2027 elections.
