Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja has authorized former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, to travel overseas for medical treatment.
The ruling, delivered on Monday, directed that Nnaji’s international passport be released to him to facilitate the trip.
Nnaji, 63, is currently facing a six-count charge filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The charges include alleged certificate forgery, false information, and corruption. He pleaded not guilty when arraigned on July 13.
According to the ICPC, between August 2023 and October 2025, Nnaji received ₦29.5 million in salary and allowances, which the commission described as proceeds of unlawful acts under the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
He is also accused of using his ministerial office to confer corrupt advantages on himself.
The commission further alleged that Nnaji presented forged documents, including a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate and a University of Nigeria, Nsukka degree certificate, during his ministerial appointment process.
Following a motion filed by his counsel, Ogwu Onoja (SAN), the court granted the request for his passport release.
The trial has been adjourned to October 26 for continuation.
