The Edo State Police Command has ordered a discreet investigation into a confrontation between officers of the Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA) and members of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT).
The move follows a video circulating on social media that shows the two groups in a heated altercation, during which an IRT officer is seen firing a rifle into the air.
In a statement released on Thursday, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said Commissioner of Police Patrick Daaor had spoken with representatives from both sides. He directed a thorough probe to determine exactly what led to the incident.
The CP also ordered that the officer who discharged the weapon face an appropriate disciplinary review.
The command stressed that it “does not, and will not, condone any act of indiscipline, unprofessional conduct or abuse of police powers by any of its personnel.” It added that any officer found culpable, regardless of agency, would face sanctions in line with existing laws and regulations.
Police authorities further emphasised the importance of inter-agency cooperation and mutual respect, noting that effective public safety depends on security and government agencies working together professionally.
