United States President Donald Trump has appointed Dr. Karl Von Batten, managing partner of Washington-based lobbying firm Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C., as a commissioner on a White House presidential commission.
The firm announced the appointment in a statement on X, praising the decision as a “tremendous honor” and highlighting Von Batten’s “longstanding commitment to public service and leadership.”
Dr. Von Batten expressed gratitude to President Trump for the confidence placed in him, pledging to “answer the call to serve our President and country.”
This appointment comes months after Nigerian opposition leader Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), hired Von Batten’s firm on a 12‑month retainer valued at $1.2 million to represent his interests in Washington.
The announcement has drawn attention given Von Batten’s dual role as both Atiku’s lobbyist and now a U.S. presidential commissioner, underscoring the intersection of American politics and Nigerian political strategy.
