Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued 23 abducted civilians and thwarted a fresh kidnapping attempt during coordinated operations in Zamfara State.
In Anka Local Government Area, soldiers on patrol around Wuya town engaged terrorists and secured the release of victims who had been held captive for nearly three weeks.
Security sources confirmed that the rescued group included three men and 20 women abducted from Gummi Local Government Area.
The victims are now receiving medical care and support before reuniting with their families. In a separate operation in Bungudu Local Government Area, troops responded to intelligence reports of armed bandits infiltrating Dankurmi.
A heavy firefight ensued, forcing the attackers to retreat without abducting any residents. Bloodstains found along their withdrawal route suggested that some of the bandits sustained injuries.
Troops have since maintained a strong presence in the area and continue to track the fleeing terrorists, reinforcing efforts to secure communities across Zamfara.
