Tinubu May Offer Temporary Relief Amid Planned Lagos Transporters’ protest – Atiku

African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has suggested that President Bola Tinubu could temporarily restore fuel subsidy relief in response to a planned protest by Lagos State transporters over the recent rise in pump prices.

Atiku made the remarks during a world press conference on Friday. He cautioned that any such move would likely be short-lived and reversed after the 2027 elections if Tinubu secures a second term.

“Let me also caution Nigerians that in the next few days there may be a demonstration by Lagos transporters and this will provide Bola Tinubu the excuse to temporarily provide succour of bringing back fuel subsidy and after being re-elected, go back to the same old policy,” Atiku said.

The former vice president has himself pledged to restore fuel subsidy if elected president in 2027.President Tinubu ended the fuel subsidy regime during his inauguration in May 2023.

Since then, Nigeria has seen multiple increases in the pump price of petrol.
