Thousands of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State have defected to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), pledging their support for the party in the 2027 elections.
The mass defection, which drew members from various local government areas, took place on Monday at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The group was led by Ajiboye Sangogade, Personal Assistant to former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who recently lost the APC governorship primary.
Sangogade, an Ibadan native, declared that he and his supporters were committed to working for the success of the APM in the upcoming polls.
The defectors were formally received by Governor Seyi Makinde and other APM leaders. Addressing the crowd, Makinde welcomed the new members and expressed confidence in the party’s chances.
“Today, we are welcoming thousands of APC members into the Allied Peoples Movement. This shows that our victory is only a matter of time. We will win massively in all elections in 2027,” Makinde said.
He also advised APC’s gubernatorial candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, to focus on contesting against APM’s candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, rather than criticising his administration.
Makinde further vowed to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
The defection marks a significant shift in Oyo’s political landscape, strengthening the APM’s position ahead of the January 2027 polls.
