Suspected bandits have attacked the base of Operation Burst, a joint security outfit made up of personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigerian Army, in Oyo State.
The outfit, established by late former governor Abiola Ajimobi, was targeted in the early hours of Sunday along the Igbeti/Igboho road, which connects Olorunsogo and Oorelope local government areas.
According to reports, the attack occurred between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. The Chairman of Olorunsogo LGA, Kazeem Olayanju, confirmed the incident, noting that no casualties were recorded.
Olayanju explained that the assailants carted away valuables including a generator and a motorcycle, while also setting ablaze the security post, an abandoned vehicle, and other property.
“The information is true. But there is no casualty. They burnt the security post we constructed for them. They also set ablaze an abandoned vehicle there. They also carted away their generator and motorcycle. It occurred today around 5am and 6am,” he said.
The attack underscores the growing insecurity in parts of Oyo State, raising concerns about the vulnerability of even security formations to bandit operations.
