Abimbola Adekanmbi, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate for the 2027 Oyo State governorship election, has rejected suggestions that he is a surrogate or proxy for outgoing Governor Seyi Makinde.
In an interview on Arise News on Tuesday, the former Commissioner for Finance said he would govern independently if elected and take full ownership of his decisions and policies.
“I’m no surrogate to Governor Makinde. The governor made it clear that I shouldn’t inherit his enemies or liabilities,” Adekanmbi stated.
“I’m owning every action I take as governor, just as I have always owned my actions in life. I own it, and I’m prepared. I have my own manifesto and strategy.”
He also clarified that the selection of APM candidates across elective positions was not a unilateral decision by the governor.
According to Adekanmbi, the process involved broad consultations and engagements with stakeholders from different sectors and regions of the state.
