The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has pledged ₦50 million to support traders affected by the recent fire outbreak at Oranyan Market in Ibadan.
Alli announced the intervention in a Facebook post on Friday, explaining that the donation was aimed at providing immediate relief to traders who lost their shops and livelihoods in the inferno.
He noted that his campaign leadership team had visited the market to reassure victims of the party’s commitment.
“₦50 million has been committed to begin immediate relief for traders affected by the fire. This commitment is real, the support is coming, and no trader who lost their livelihood will be left to rebuild alone,” Alli said.
Describing the market as more than a business hub, Alli emphasized its role in sustaining families and building futures. He added that the intervention was only the beginning of his support for the affected traders.
The fire, which broke out around midnight earlier in the week, destroyed nearly 300 shops, including those of gold dealers, furniture makers, and clothing traders. Emergency officials said the blaze was contained by 1 a.m., preventing further spread.
Acting Governor Abdulraheem Adebayo Lawal also sympathized with victims, assuring them that the state government was working with emergency agencies to assess damages and provide relief.
The Oranyan Market incident came just two days after another fire destroyed nine shops at the Nigerian Railway Shopping Complex in Ibadan South-West.
