Nigerian Real Estate CEO Arrested in Ireland Over $23m Fraud Allegation

Irish authorities have arrested 39-year-old Nigerian businessman and Lagos real estate CEO, Edwin Omokhuale, in connection with an alleged $23 million fraud targeting an Australian mining company.

The UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) confirmed the arrest in a statement released on September 10, 2026.

Omokhuale was detained by An Garda Síochána at Dublin Airport on Wednesday afternoon while attempting to board a flight to Paris.

According to investigators, the alleged fraud occurred in early 2023 and involved deceiving employees of the Australian firm into transferring approximately US$23 million (about £17 million) into accounts controlled by the suspects.

The NCA revealed that Omokhuale, who resided in the UK at the time of the scheme, now faces money laundering charges.

He is expected to appear in a Dublin court as extradition proceedings to return him to the UK begin.

Authorities say the case highlights the growing collaboration between international law enforcement agencies in tackling large-scale financial crimes.
