The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has directed Air Peace to provide compensation for passengers affected by a delayed Lagos–Enugu flight on Monday, after preliminary findings revealed the airline issued incorrect notifications.
Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong, one of the affected passengers, accused the airline of “irresponsibility and impunity” after the 6:45am flight was rescheduled to 4:50pm, causing him to miss a court appearance in Enugu. Effiong also faulted regulators, alleging complicity in the airline’s repeated delays.
According to Effiong, passengers were misled by reminders sent as late as 2:01am, despite the airline knowing the flight would not depart as scheduled. He noted that Air Peace recorded 1,330 delays out of 1,864 flights in August 2026, citing NCAA data, yet faced no sanctions.
Responding via X, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, rejected claims that the regulator is incapable of tackling airline misconduct. He acknowledged Effiong’s ordeal, describing the disruption as a “ripple effect from yesterday’s cancellation,” and confirmed that the authority had urged Air Peace to maintain buffer aircraft to mitigate extreme delays.
Achimugu assured that the NCAA would investigate the incident thoroughly and ensure affected passengers receive appropriate compensation.
