Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has called for urgent action to rescue more than 40 children abducted in Borno State, who have remained in captivity for 137 days.
Makinde made the appeal on Tuesday while receiving the report of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the May 15, 2026 abduction of students and teachers from Esinele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
He said the commission’s findings would guide government decisions, assign responsibilities, and allow the public to monitor progress. “Our children’s safety must be the test of what changes,” Makinde stressed.
The governor urged Nigerians to examine the evidence presented by the commission and judge the government’s response before, during, and after the attack.
He emphasized that no child in Nigeria should fear for their life simply because they are seeking education.
Makinde concluded his remarks by drawing attention to the plight of the Borno children, abducted on the same day as the Oriire incident, who remain in captivity more than four months later.
He called for intensified rescue efforts and stronger measures to secure schools nationwide.
