The Anambra State Police Command has successfully rescued a 16-year-old boy, Favour Ayogu, after suspected kidnappers abandoned him near a security checkpoint in Onitsha.
Ayogu, who was allegedly abducted in Igboeze South Local Government Area of Enugu State, was freed on Sunday night when the abductors dropped him from a black Toyota Highlander SUV at Ekene Junction along Oguta Road, Onitsha.
The suspects fled after noticing heightened police surveillance.Police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed that the rescue was the result of intensified joint security operations.
He explained that officers had grown suspicious of the kidnappers’ movements and pursued them, forcing the gang to abandon their victim.
The Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Ama, praised the patrol team for its vigilance and urged officers to sustain intelligence-led patrols and checkpoints across the state.
He reassured residents that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property while ensuring criminal groups find no safe haven in Anambra.
Authorities are now working to reunite Ayogu with his family in Enugu State and have appealed to the public for information that could help trace his relatives.
