The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has distributed sensitive electoral materials to three local government areas in preparation for Saturday’s by-election in the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency.
The distribution took place on Friday at the Central Bank of Nigeria premises in Gombe, witnessed by political party agents, security personnel, members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, CBN officials, and journalists.
Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Gombe State, Alhaji Umar Muktar Gajiram, confirmed that the materials had been dispatched to the respective local government areas for onward deployment to polling units.
He emphasized that the process was conducted openly to ensure transparency and build public confidence.
“The sensitive materials have been distributed to the respective local government areas. From there, they will be deployed to the various polling units ahead of tomorrow’s election,” Gajiram said.
He explained that endorsements and signatures on the materials were part of the authentication process to guarantee that only certified INEC materials would be used.
The REC also urged political parties, candidates, and supporters to abide by the Peace Accord signed earlier at the Gombe State Police Command, stressing that peaceful conduct was a collective responsibility.
The by-election, scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2026, will involve 495,851 registered voters across the constituency.
It follows a vacancy in the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency seat.
