Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has dismissed allegations that he remained silent on the recent killings in Ayilamo community, Logo Local Government Area, describing the accusations as “cheap blackmail” and politically motivated.
The governor, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, was reacting to comments credited to Dr. Terver Akase, media consultant to the PDP governorship candidate.
Alia argued that the opposition was attempting to distract his administration from its development agenda ahead of the 2027 elections.
He stressed that while criticism is part of democracy, political campaigns should be guided by facts and fair assessments of records.
“The opposition should not be allowed to distract this administration from the task of transforming the state to its rightful enviable height,” he said.
Alia accused former Governor Samuel Ortom and PDP candidate Michael Aondoakaa of failing to address insecurity during their time in office, despite introducing the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Law.
He also criticized the PDP for operating a joint account system for local governments, which it now condemns.
According to him, the 2027 elections will be decided by the people at the ballot box, not by “press statements or partisan theatrics.”
He expressed confidence that his administration’s record of progress would speak louder than opposition propaganda.Alia urged residents to disregard falsehoods, insisting that Benue is moving forward with a vision of development, investment, and peace.
