Armed attackers have k!lled four mobile police officers and at least seven to eight civilians in a deadly raid on Ayilamo community in Tombo Ward, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
Residents said the assault began on Thursday night and continued into Friday morning, September 11, 2026.
More than 200 gunmen, reportedly armed with sophisticated weapons, entered the farming community through the Alufu Road axis from neighbouring Taraba State.
They advanced toward Ayilamo, firing indiscriminately and setting several houses ablaze.
A detachment of mobile policemen stationed in the community engaged the invaders in a prolonged gun battle. After several hours of fighting, the attackers eventually retreated.
The bodies of the four officers were later recovered from the bush on Friday morning, along with those of the slain residents.Local sources, including resident Tyolumun Ugande, confirmed the casualties and noted that several houses were burnt during the attack.
Another resident, James Udough (also referred to as James Ugah in some reports), said this was the second time within a month that mobile policemen deployed to Ayilamo had been killed by bandits.
Ayilamo, located along the Abinsi-Tyulen-Anyiin-Wukari road, has faced repeated attacks in recent years, prompting residents to appeal for stronger security presence from the Benue State Government and the Federal Government.
Some locals linked the persistent violence to rumours of mineral deposits in the area.The community’s security committee has called for reinforcements, while security agencies are expected to intensify operations in the area.
