Former Minister of Aviation and ambassador-designate to South Africa, Femi Fani-Kayode, has accused Karl Ikemefuna Von Batten and his United States-based lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York LC, of spreading false information about President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement posted on his X handle on Tuesday, Fani-Kayode said his email and social media accounts had been “flooded with hogwash” allegedly circulated by Von Batten’s firm.
He accused the lobbyist of attempting to portray Tinubu as a criminal despite the president never being convicted of any crime.
Fani-Kayode dismissed claims that Tinubu tried to bribe Von Batten with $3 million, calling the allegation baseless and challenging him to provide evidence.
He urged those pursuing disclosure cases against Tinubu in the United States to allow the courts to handle the matter, insisting the proceedings would yield nothing.
Echoing Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo’s description of the controversy as “a storm in a teacup,” Fani-Kayode expressed confidence that the American judiciary would uphold Tinubu’s privacy rights.
He further alleged that Von Batten had been hired by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for $1.2 million to pursue lobbying efforts against Tinubu, describing the campaign as futile.
Fani-Kayode also questioned Von Batten’s identity and academic background, claiming he adopted the surname through marriage and casting doubt on his alleged attendance at prestigious universities.
Concluding, Fani-Kayode insisted that Tinubu’s political future would not be determined by foreign lobbying or social media campaigns, but by “God and the Nigerian people.”
