Dickson Demands Prosecution After Attack on Obi’s Convoy in Benue

National leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has condemned the attack on the convoy of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in Benue State, insisting that arrests alone are not enough.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday, Dickson said Nigerians expect not only the arrest of the suspects but also a thorough investigation and prosecution of those involved, including any alleged sponsors.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when suspected thugs reportedly blocked a major road as Obi arrived in Benue. Obi later clarified that his visit was humanitarian, not campaign-related, while lamenting the state of Nigerian politics.

The Benue State Police Command confirmed the arrest of 46 suspects linked to the attack. However, Dickson stressed that Nigerians need clarity on allegations that some officials may have been complicit.

“The police have done very well to make some arrests, but we want to see the outcome of the investigation and then prosecution of those responsible,” he said.

The development has heightened political tension as the 2027 general elections draw closer, with concerns over violence and intimidation in the political space.
