The Federal High Court in Abuja has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to officially recognise and use the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)’s modified digital logo in all electoral processes.
NDC leader and former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, announced the ruling in a statement on Wednesday.
He explained that Justice J.O. Abdulmalik delivered the judgment following a suit filed by the party to compel INEC to adopt the logo contained in its constitution, rather than the association logo initially used during registration.
Dickson noted that the party’s first National Executive Council (NEC) meeting had approved the modified logo, which INEC initially uploaded but later removed without explanation.
After INEC failed to resolve the matter, the NDC sought judicial intervention.Welcoming the court’s decision, Dickson described it as a vindication of the party’s position and urged candidates and members to immediately begin using the constitutionally approved logo on campaign materials.
He acknowledged that some members may have already printed materials with the old logo, but stressed that the modified version featuring the two-finger victory sign was the authentic and widely recognised symbol of the party.
Dickson further described the dispute as part of “administrative machinations” the NDC had faced, but reaffirmed the party’s commitment to due process and unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
