The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared that it does not trust the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to protect its votes in the 2027 general elections.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the statement during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday.
He said the party was making independent arrangements to collate its votes, citing past failures of INEC’s technology.
Abdullahi recalled his 2023 senatorial bid, noting that candidates were assured of automatic transmission of results to the IReV portal, only for INEC to later claim technical glitches prevented it.
“We have been beaten by that, and we are now twice shy. We will not allow it to happen again. We can no longer trust INEC to protect our votes,” he said.
He stressed that the ADC would vigilantly guard its votes and accept results only if they reflect polling unit outcomes.
“If the results at the end of the day reflect the true votes, we will accept them. But if they do not, we are not going to accept them,” Abdullahi added.
The party said it is putting measures in place to collate its votes independently, insisting that electoral transparency is non-negotiable.
