U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Oman, threatening military strikes if the Gulf nation “gets in the way” of Washington’s negotiations with Iran over control of the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking in an interview with Fox News journalist Trey Yingst, Trump said:“If Oman gets in the way, we’ll bomb the shit out of them.”
The comments come as Oman and Iran continue discussions on maritime navigation through the strait, with Tehran announcing progress toward a joint declaration.
The waterway, a vital global energy route, has been effectively blockaded by Iran since the outbreak of the Middle East war on February 28, 2026.
Trump has repeatedly insisted that the strait is under U.S. control, even suggesting last week that he could declare it part of U.S. territory. Iran, however, maintains that Hormuz “will remain Iranian.”
The president also called on Iran to “put up the white flag of surrender,” while acknowledging back-channel communications between his administration and Iran’s Revolutionary Guard. He described Iranian negotiators as “good poker players, but they’re dying.”
The escalating rhetoric comes amid growing domestic opposition to the war, with Democrats pressing to wrest control of Congress in the upcoming November midterm elections.
Trump’s remarks underscore the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, which carries a significant share of global oil and gas shipments.
Iran’s northern coastline borders the strait, while Oman lies to the south, making both nations central to its control.
