Troops of Operation Enduring Peace, under Operation Hard Knock, have foiled another attempted attack on Manja community in Mangu LGA of Plateau state.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, said the
incident occurred on Saturday when troops responded to reports of the movement
of armed herders around the community.
According to military sources, the troops’ swift
intervention forced the armed men, who were allegedly attempting to attack the
village, to withdraw into the surrounding bushes alongside their cattle.
In the same day, troops responded to another report of an
attempted infiltration into Manja village.
Zagazola said the troops immediately launched a pursuit
operation against the suspected attackers and their cattle, while maintaining a
strong presence around the community.
Security forces subsequently dominated the general area with
offensive patrols and clearance operations to prevent further attempts to
infiltrate the community.
The development comes just days after troops of Operation
Enduring Peace foiled an attempted attack on Manja community following an
attack in neighbouring communities.
Several residents believed to be Fulani were killed on
August 16 in Jwak Maitumbi community, Mangu LGA of Plateau, while about 45
residential shelters and large quantities of crops were destroyed.
Less than 48 hours later, suspected Fulani militia invaded
Bin-Per community in Kombun district of Mangu and killed at least 23 people,
including women and children, in what appeared to be a reprisal.
Security sources said efforts are ongoing to maintain
pressure on the suspected attackers and ensure the safety of residents in Manja
and neighbouring communities.
