'Rest in Peace APC’ — Dino Melaye Celebrates Adeleke’s Win as Blow to Tinubu

Former Kogi West Senator and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Dino Melaye has celebrated the All Progressives Congress (APC) defeat in the Osun State governorship election, describing it as a major setback for President Bola Tinubu and the ruling party.

In a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, Melaye wrote: “Till we meet again APC. Rest in Peace. 34 Governors, Senate President and Tinubu defeated. Odabo Tinubu...ancestral State lost. SDM.”

The message came shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party the winner of the August 15, 2026, Osun governorship poll.

Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes. Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas.

Osun, a key South-West state, is widely regarded as part of President Tinubu’s political and cultural base. Melaye framed the loss as the ruling party’s “ancestral state” slipping away, using the Yoruba farewell “Odabo” (goodbye) directed at Tinubu and the APC.

In an earlier post the same morning, Melaye congratulated Adeleke, saying: “Opposition win in Osun. Congratulations Ademola Adeleke. We are dancing to the Villa. APC....odabo.”

Melaye, a vocal critic of the Tinubu administration and now aligned with the ADC, has repeatedly predicted the APC’s defeat in the 2027 general elections.
