Publisher of Ovation Magazine and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chief Dele Momodu, has called on opposition parties in Osun State to rally behind Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party ahead of the August 16 governorship election.
Momodu warned that divisions among opposition ranks could give the All Progressives Congress (APC) an opening to manipulate the poll. He described the APC as a “cankerworm” that has eroded Nigeria’s economy, social cohesion, religious tolerance, and democratic institutions.
According to him, the initial plan was for opposition parties to avoid repeating past mistakes by presenting a united front. “It’s foolhardy not to see the need for opposition unity. The time has now come for us to confront reality and demonstrate that we indeed possess common sense by being demonstrably practical,” he said.
Momodu stressed that the political climate in Osun made unity imperative, urging parties to set aside personal ambitions and prioritize collective interest. He argued that the only sensible strategy was for all opposition groups to align behind Adeleke, whom he described as the candidate best positioned to challenge the APC.
“APC has turned Osun State into a theatre of war. The only practical response is for opposition parties to back Governor Adeleke,” he added.
