Arise Television anchor Rufai Oseni has criticised the performances of Osun State governorship candidates in a town hall debate held on Tuesday, saying none of them offered bright ideas or a clear vision for the state.
Speaking on Wednesday, Oseni said the presentations across the board were lacklustre and left him unimpressed about what residents of Osun could expect from the next administration.
He specifically noted that even incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke focused more on defending his record and trading attacks than outlining a compelling future plan.
“I felt like the candidates didn’t present bright ideas. All of them. And I felt it’s very lacklustre what Osun State is going to get, and I’m saying this across the board. I mean, I didn’t see the brightness of ideas,” Oseni said.
He added that Adeleke spent much of his time reacting to criticism and highlighting achievements such as a 350-kilometre road project, but failed to articulate a broader vision.
“Governor Adeleke was reacting to many things, trying to defend his administration, but I didn’t see a lot of brightness. I didn’t see a lot of vision. I saw more attacks. The governor was defending his achievements, including a 350-kilometre road. But what is the grand vision?”
Oseni singled out the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) candidate as the only one who meaningfully addressed healthcare challenges, attributing this to the candidate’s background as a medical doctor and the specific proposals he put forward to improve the sector.
All the governorship candidates took part in the town hall debate on Tuesday ahead of the Osun State election scheduled for August 15, 2026.
