Osun Election: APC, Accord Trade Blame Over Post-Poll Violence

The Osun State chapters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the ruling Accord Party are locked in a war of words over alleged attacks on their members following Saturday’s governorship election.

The APC accused Accord supporters of launching assaults on its members after Governor Ademola Adeleke was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

In a statement, APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi condemned what he described as a “wave of post-election violence” allegedly carried out by Accord loyalists.

He claimed the attacks began shortly after Adeleke’s victory was announced and further alleged that local government chairmen aligned with Accord had forcefully occupied council secretariats.

Olabisi also accused members of the state executive of the National Union of Road Transport Workers of deploying thugs to seize control of motor parks.

He warned that unchecked violence could destabilize public peace and urged the Osun State Police Command to step up security.

Accord, however, dismissed the allegations. State chairman Victor Akande insisted that Accord was committed to peaceful politics, accusing APC supporters of being behind attacks on Accord members instead.

He alleged that some Accord supporters had been unlawfully detained and described APC’s claims as “propaganda.”

“Accord is not known for hooliganism. They are the ones attacking our members,” Akande said, stressing that Adeleke’s victory reflected the overwhelming support of Osun residents.

The exchange highlights rising tensions between the two parties in the aftermath of the governorship poll, raising concerns about political stability in the state.
