Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has called on African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar to rein in his supporters following reports of online attacks against backers of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Yesufu, co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls campaign, made the appeal on her verified X account Tuesday evening.
She alleged that Atiku’s supporters had gone on a “rampage” on social media, targeting Obi’s supporters, including herself.
“An appeal to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to call his supporters to order. They have been on a rampage on social media attacking supporters of Mr Peter Obi. I have been one of their targets,” she wrote.
Yesufu emphasized the need for political decency and sportsmanship, noting that she had previously worked with Atiku in the same political party and expected better conduct.
She argued that opposition supporters should focus on challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress and President Bola Tinubu in 2027, rather than fighting among themselves.
Her comments come amid heightened tensions between rival opposition camps, as the race toward the 2027 elections intensifies.
