Human rights lawyer and political activist, Dele Farotimi, has declared that the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, was entirely right in his assessment of Nigeria.
Farotimi made the remarks in a video shared on X on Wednesday, insisting that Kanu’s criticisms of the Nigerian state have been validated by unfolding events.
He argued that the government’s failure to address systemic problems, coupled with its tendency to silence rational voices while allowing criminals to roam free, has deepened instability.
“Nigeria has proven Nnamdi Kanu right at every point. I have no single argument against the facts he has adduced in his agitation against the Nigerian state,” Farotimi said.
“I am today convinced that Nnamdi Kanu was 110% correct in his assessment of the Nigerian state.”He lamented that while Kanu remains in detention, “numerous murderers are walking around free,” describing this as proof of Nigeria’s dysfunction.
Farotimi warned that ignoring rational voices only paves the way for more extreme agitation.
The activist added that he has engaged with separatist groups across different regions, including Igboland and Yorubaland, stressing that Nigeria’s refusal to listen to legitimate concerns risks fueling further unrest.
