A prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) leader in Ondo State, Mr. Omoyele Olabode, has praised the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for providing direct financial assistance to victims of recent flooding in the state’s South Senatorial District.
The floods displaced residents across six Local Government Areas, prompting Tunji-Ojo to sponsor cash donations to more than 1,000 affected households under his Flood Relief Palliative initiative.
Former House of Representatives member, Kolade Akinjo, coordinated the disbursement, explaining that the intervention was designed to cushion the economic impact of the disaster and help families recover.
In a statement issued Thursday, Olabode said the minister’s swift action “hit at the core of meeting the people’s challenge at a trying time,” describing it as a reflection of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
"The cash transfers have gone a long way in easing the pain of our people in Ondo South. It shows a leader who feels the pulse of his people and acts without delay,” Olabode noted.
He urged other political leaders and well-meaning Nigerians to emulate Tunji-Ojo’s gesture, while also calling for sustained government efforts on long-term flood control and drainage projects.
Olabode added that although victims await further support from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the minister’s intervention has already provided crucial relief.
