The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has welcomed remarks by Israeli strategic advisor Noga Arbel, who publicly called for Biafra’s independence and condemned Britain’s continued influence in Nigeria.
Arbel, a former Israeli Foreign Ministry official, made the comments during a programme aired on Israel’s Channel 14 on August 14, 2026.
She argued that Britain’s support had enabled Nigeria’s long-standing control over Biafra, describing it as “colonialism,” and urged Israel to press London to withdraw its backing.
“It is time that we will help Biafra to take back the control on their land,” Arbel said, adding that the Igbo people had recently reached out to Israel.
Reacting, IPOB’s Israel-based representative, Rachel Nwosu, described the broadcast as “the single most significant breakthrough in Biafra’s diplomatic history,” noting that the influential Channel 14 had issued a direct call for Israeli government intervention.
The development follows IPOB’s July 2026 delegation to the Knesset, where leaders were received by Deputy Speaker Nissim Vaturi and other senior officials.
IPOB said the reception marked a milestone in its peaceful diplomatic outreach, highlighting concerns over the detention of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in custody since 2021.
IPOB declared that the Channel 14 broadcast legitimized its narrative internationally, framing Nigeria’s control of Biafra as colonial occupation and portraying the region as a homeland for persecuted Judeo-Christian communities.
According to IPOB, the Israeli endorsement signals “the beginning of the end for Nigerian tyranny in our land,” and represents the opening phase of a coordinated diplomatic push that could reshape Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
