Gunmen who abducted members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kogi State have reportedly demanded ₦20 million ransom for each victim still in captivity.
The corps members were among 15 passengers travelling from Bayelsa to Abuja after completing their three-week orientation exercise when they were seized along the Aloma–Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area.
A relative of one of the victims confirmed the ransom demand, saying: “One of our daughters was kidnapped on her way from Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing the three-week orientation camp. The kidnappers are requesting ₦20 million.”
The Kogi State Police Command earlier confirmed the abduction, noting that 11 victims including the drivers of the two vehicles involved had been rescued during a joint security operation.
Efforts are ongoing to free those still held.Meanwhile, families of the abducted corps members have appealed to the Federal Government, NYSC authorities, and security agencies to intensify rescue efforts and secure the release of the remaining victims.
The incident has heightened concerns over the safety of corps members and other travellers across Nigeria’s highways, with calls for stronger security measures to protect citizens.
