Former President Jonathan Commissions N58.7bn Township Roads in Bauchi


Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday commissioned 18 completed township road projects spanning 49.7 kilometres in Bauchi State, executed by the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed at a total cost of N58,726,213,058.25.


Jonathan, who served as Special Guest of Honour at the ceremony in Bauchi, described the projects as evidence of purposeful leadership. 


He stressed that quality infrastructure is essential for improving citizens’ lives and driving economic growth.


“Today’s event is more than the commissioning of roads. It is a manifestation of commitment to delivering democratic dividends to the people,” he said. 


“No society can attain economic progress without effective and reliable infrastructure. Roads remain critical to connecting communities, creating opportunities and promoting inclusive growth.”


He urged residents to support the government and protect public infrastructure so that projects deliver measurable benefits.Governor Bala Mohammed thanked Jonathan for attending and said the occasion celebrated the fulfilment of promises made to the people. 


He noted that his administration drew inspiration from Jonathan’s focus on infrastructure development.


The governor said the 18 roads, built to engineering standards with signage, markings, drainage and solar-powered streetlights on selected routes, connect key residential and commercial areas in the metropolis. 


They are expected to boost economic activity, improve aesthetics and create jobs.Mohammed listed the roads as including the Sabon Kaura-Birshi Gandu-BRC Road, Gwallameji-Doka-Rafin Zurfi Road, Bayara Township Road, dualisation of Muda Lawal Road, Malam Goje-Muda Lawal Road, Yakubu Wanka Street, Shagari-Kwatas Railway Road, Karofin Madaki-Kofar Dumi Road, Jaja Road, Gwangwangwan-Bakaro-Kofar Dumi Road, Nufawa Road, Dorawa Close Road, International Conference Centre Road, Central Market-Wunti Street Road, Adamu Jumba Road, dualisation of Sam Ijoma Road, and dualisation of Murtala Muhammad and NITEL roads.


He added that his administration has constructed about 3,000 kilometres of roads across the state since assuming office and remains committed to using infrastructure to drive sustainable development.
