Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East, has explained his controversial “Kill Accord” comment, stressing that it was a political metaphor urging All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters to defeat the Accord Party through votes, not violence.
The remark, captured in a viral video where Fadahunsi spoke in Yoruba at a gathering in Ilesa, drew criticism after he appeared to encourage confrontation with Accord supporters ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election.
In a statement issued Tuesday by his media office in Osogbo, titled “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence,” the senator clarified that his words were meant to rally APC supporters to reject Accord at the ballot box.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Senator’s statement was purely political and metaphorical,” the release noted, adding that Fadahunsi has consistently advocated peaceful, democratic elections.
The senator urged party members and the electorate to maintain calm before, during, and after the polls, while calling on security agencies to ensure voters can exercise their rights without intimidation.
Fadahunsi reaffirmed his commitment to democratic values, issue-based campaigns, and credible elections, insisting that his comments should not be misinterpreted as incitement to violence.
