Crimes of two Nigerians extradited to US resulted in a child’s death

The crimes allegedly committed by two Nigerians extradited to the United States led to the death of a child, Kash Patel, the FBI director, has said.

Patel said Adebola Festus Adekunle and Mudashiru Afeez Olawale, who were arrested in Nigeria in 2023, have arrived in the US to face charges over alleged s^xt0rtion schemes targeting minors.

“This FBI has brought back two high-value targets from Nigeria to the United States to face justice for alleged s^xt0rtion crimes targeting minors,” Patel said in a post on X on Friday night.

“Adebola Festus Adekunle and Mudasiru Afeez Olawale were arrested in Nigeria in 2023 and are now on U.S. soil.

“The charges include s^xual exploitation of minors, coercion and enticement, extortion, distribution and production of child s^xual abuse material, and other offences.

“One of these alleged schemes resulted in the death of a child. They were overseas for three years. Now they’re back on U.S. soil to answer for the charges against them.”

THE ALLEGED CRIMES

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said the two men were extradited following separate investigations by the FBI into alleged online s^xual exploitation and s^xtortion of two teenage boys.

According to Dele Oyewale, EFCC spokesperson, the victims were allegedly threatened with the distribution of nude photographs and extorted for money through money remitters, gift cards and cryptocurrency.

One of the cases involved a 13-year-old boy who was allegedly contacted on Instagram and persuaded to exchange nude photographs.

The EFCC said the suspect allegedly threatened to distribute the boy’s photographs to his Instagram contacts unless he paid money.

Oyewale said the communication reportedly continued even after the boy indicated that he intended to take his own life.

The EFCC said US authorities sought Olawale’s extradition over a seven-count charge, including alleged s^xual exploitation of a minor resulting in death, enticement of a minor to engage in s^xual activity, interstate threatening communications and distribution of child pornography.
