The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Surajudeen Basiru, on Sunday visited Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke in Osogbo, offering congratulations on his re-election.
Basiru explained three reasons for the courtesy call. First, he expressed gratitude to Adeleke for attending the final rites of his late mother and visiting him during his bereavement earlier this year.
He admitted delaying his reciprocal visit until after the governorship election due to political tensions, noting he had campaigned vigorously against Adeleke.
Secondly, Basiru acknowledged Adeleke’s victory, despite supporting APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji.
He emphasized that in democracy, one must accept outcomes, adding that “God alone gives power.”
Finally, Basiru thanked Adeleke for reaffirming his endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 election, despite speculation that he might withdraw support after winning re-election.
The meeting highlighted mutual respect across party lines, with Basiru recognizing Adeleke’s role as governor while stressing the importance of unity in democratic contests.
