APC Gives Kalu, Nkwonta 14-Day Ultimatum to Apologise or Face Discipline

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a 14-day deadline to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Chris Nkwonta to publicly apologise for comments it views as anti-party, or risk disciplinary action.

The State Working Committee (SWC), chaired by Chijioke Chukwu, reached the decision at a meeting in Umuahia.

The move follows Kalu’s appearance on national television in which he predicted that Labour Party Governor Alex Otti would win re-election in 2027, and Nkwonta’s remark at a reception for Senator Oluremi Tinubu in Ukwa East that he would vote for Otti.

In a statement by Publicity Secretary Uche Aguoru, the SWC described the comments as unstatesmanlike, embarrassing and damaging to party cohesion and its electoral chances in 2027.

The committee said the statements violated Article 21.2(11) of the APC Constitution, which permits disciplinary measures against members whose conduct undermines the party.

Both lawmakers have been directed to issue unreserved public apologies within 14 days that demonstrate their commitment to the APC and its 2027 candidates.

Failure to comply will lead to the constitution of a disciplinary committee to recommend sanctions.

The SWC also resolved that political support and privileges could be withdrawn if either lawmaker’s actions are found to be contrary to the party’s interests.

The Abia APC reaffirmed its commitment to internal unity and to securing the governorship and all legislative seats in the state in 2027.
