ADC Blasts FG Over Osun Frozen Funds, Calls It ‘Political Terrorism’

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly condemned the freezing of local government allocations to Osun State, describing the action as “political terrorism” by the Federal Government.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party accused the Bola Tinubu-led administration of weaponising state institutions to punish the people of Osun and undermine the state government ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

“This is not an administrative decision or a legal dispute. It is political terrorism by the Bola Tinubu-led APC government, carried out with the instruments of the Nigerian state in order to achieve the singular objective of undermining the state government ahead of the coming governorship election in the state,” the statement read.

The ADC said the withholding of statutory funds forms part of a broader campaign of intimidation.

It listed the continued occupation of local government councils by unelected APC loyalists, the arrest of opposition figures, the alleged activities of armed political thugs backed by security agencies, and what it called the coordinated destabilisation of Osun through federal institutions.

The party argued that ordinary citizens would bear the consequences, as the freeze could disrupt workers’ salaries, primary healthcare services, education, rural infrastructure, and other essential public services.

“This sinister move confirms that the Tinubu-led federal government will do anything, including starving the people of Osun State, to achieve its political objectives. No democracy worthy of its name deliberately sacrifices the welfare of innocent citizens in pursuit of partisan political interests,” Abdullahi stated.

The ADC called for the immediate restoration of all statutory allocations due to the state’s local governments, an end to federal intimidation, and the restoration of constitutional order so that the people of Osun can freely choose their leaders.
